Charles A. Bardwell

BARDWELL'S PHARMACY

First, we were assigned a topic, Bardwell's Pharmacy, given to us by our teacher, Mrs. Disilvio. We started our research by going on the internet to web sites about a former South Hadley store owner, Bardwell, and by searching for images of his pharmacy. However, we had trouble finding information about Bardwell's Pharmacy online so Ms.Disilvio gave us a packet of documents given to her from the South Hadley Historical Society. These packets allowed us to collect ideas about Bardwell, his pharmacy, and his famous root beer recipe (see root beer ingredient test). Next, we figured out what the primary sources were saying. The handwriting was difficult to read and a little old fashioned even though it was written in English.

Below we have scanned in a picture of one such document. It is basically about a payment. You can click on "Transcription" in our File Library on the right side of this page to see a full transcription.

Next, we want to tell you a little about another primary source we looked at as part of this project. The picture below is Bardwell's house and a map of his street. His house was burned down many years later.

We have learned tons of information and we were happy to present this to you and hoped that you enjoyed learning about Bardwell's Pharmacy. Thank you!
